It is believed that Arapawa sheep were introduced to New Zealand around the 1850s, however its origins a mystery. There is even some speculation that they may have been introduced as early as the 1500s, escaping Spanish galleons that landed at Arapawa around that time. The Arapawa sheep shed their own wool, and rams have become a popular trophy among hunters.
